Did you know that a child’s Emotional Quotient (EQ) contributes almost 80% to the factors determining success in later life?
Numerous studies have shown that EQ improves not only academic achievement and positive behaviour; BUT ALSO reduces stress and can predict up to a 66-79% of variation in performance! In short it has a positive impact on increasing academic performance, effectiveness & decision making, improving relationships, health and thereby general quality of life!
Just like an iceberg, many of us bury our true feelings and then experience Titanic moments leading to stress, de-motivation and uncontrolled anger.
Sound familiar??
As parents at we have all experienced this at some point in time or another, and it is during these moments that one wishes one had the tools to handle and support our children through these tough periods.
Heard of “Prevention is better than cure?”
By equipping our children with the tools, we will actually be able to prevent these “titanic moments.” Now wouldn’t that be awesome!
Social emotional learning (also known as SEL) is critical for student success.
So what is Social Emotional Learning or SEL?
Social and emotional learning (SEL) is the process through which both children and adults acquire and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes and skills necessary to:
- Understand and manage emotions
- Set and achieve positive goals
- Feel and show empathy for others
- Establish and maintain positive relationships, and
- Make responsible decisions
The result??
Long term Success and Confidence!
Use the tools and eliminate the social, emotional and mental health obstacles that are preventing your child from succeeding at school
Some statistics..
The results of a meta-analysis conducted has shown that children who attended a social emotional learning programme also demonstrated:
- an impressive 11-percentile point gain in academic test scores as compared to those who didn’t,
- PLUS fewer disruptive behaviours such as aggression, delinquent acts,
- Improved attitudes and behaviours
- Reduced reports of depression, stress, and anxiety from students
In other words, skills of emotional intelligence can be learnt and are key to Academic and Long Term success.
So we understand all of this but what are the concrete outcomes of an SEL / EQ programme?

Not quite sure?? Hear it from a parent first hand..
”Transitioning to senior school can be difficult for some children as they are expected to prioritise their work and manage their time effectively. Even though I tried guiding my son, he struggled with this. As these skills are important not only at school, but university and at work I contacted Amita Menon to arrange for Study Skills coaching. After completing the course, he is much better at planning and organising his schedule and likes the fact that he has more free time. I highly recommend the study skills workshop especially as they are taught how to put it into practice and Amita follows up after the workshop.”
